B. Tech. (Computer Science and Design)

Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Design, or B. Tech. (Computer Science and Design), is a four-year Undergraduate degree programme, designed to produce graduates who are not just familiar with computing techniques, tools, and technologies, but also with design approaches and new technologies.

Computer Science and Design is a subset of Computer Science and Engineering, which includes not only computing technologies, software, programming, and tools, but also design methods and interaction approaches. The course seeks to provide students with an interdisciplinary skill set that will enable them to work in a variety of industries, including the IT industry, animation, virtual reality, augmented reality, multimedia, robotics, game development, entertainment, and digital analytics.

The B.Tech. in Computer Science and Design (CSD) aims to develop graduates that are not only well versed with computing approaches, tools, and technologies, but are also experienced with Design approaches. The program has a small set of core courses in Computer Science (CS) and in Design disciplines, followed by electives from CS as well as Design disciplines. This enables the students to build a program most suitable for them.

With internet expanding in all spheres of life, and most industries increasing their web presence and interactivity with their stakeholders and customers, demand for incorporating good design and interaction design with rich media is increasing in all businesses. With increasing focus on user experience, the importance of Interaction Design and Design Methods is also increasing rapidly in IT products and services. The B.Tech. in Computer Science and Design (CSD) program will prepare students to work in the IT industry as well as digital design & media industry like gaming, animation, virtual/augmented reality, user interfaces etc., as well as allow students to take up higher studies in CS or in Design.

The program aims to develop capabilities in CS as well as Design and Digital Media. At the end of the program, a student will have:

Understanding of foundations, limits, and capabilities of computing.
Ability to design and implement efficient software solutions using suitable algorithms, data structures, and other computing techniques.
Understanding of design principles and techniques and ability to apply these for developing solutions to human/societal problems.
Ability to independently investigate a problem which can be solved by an Human Computer Interaction (HCI) design process and then design an end-to-end solution to it (i.e., from user need identification to UI design to technical coding and evaluation).
Ability to effectively use suitable tools and platforms, as well as enhance them, to develop applications/products using for new media design in areas like animation, gaming, virtual reality, etc.

In addition, the graduate of this program should also have the following general skills that are common with other B. Tech. programs:

Ability to work well in groups to achieve a common goal.
An awareness of one's professional and ethical responsibilities.
The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
The ability to self-learn and continue to learn throughout one's life.
Ability to undertake small research initiative and projects.
Ability to take an idea and develop into a business plan for an entrepreneurial venture (if desired).
An understanding of the impact of solutions in an economic, societal, and environmental context.

In today's world, Computer Science and Design are in high demand all around the world. Students will be able to create innovative solutions in areas including animation, AI-powered games, virtual reality, and augmented reality, among others. Design talents can be applied to solve real-time difficulties using Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and improving product visualisation.

In domains such as multimedia, animation, virtual reality, gaming, and others, modern tools and platforms are used and enhanced to produce applications/products for new media design. Programming Languages, Software Development, Website Construction, Image Processing, Spatial Computing, Media Computing, Animation and Graphics, Game Design and Development, Fundamentals of Video and Photography for Engineers, 2D and 3D Animation are some of the primary subjects taught in this course.

Entertainment, arts, games, digital analytics, mobile application development, web/product design, cyber security, and other interactive businesses around the world provide opportunities for their profession.

Software Engineer, Games Developer, 3D programmer, Web Developer, Programmer, Cyber-Security Consultant, Data Engineer, Database Graphics Designer, Information Systems Manager, Multimedia Programmer, Machine Learning Engineer, Mobile Application Developer, and Systems Architect are just a few of the job titles available. Government organisations, the IT industry, education, and research are among the various industries available.

Higher Secondary (HSC) or Equivalent from a recognized Board
With Physics, Chemistry & Maths, with not less than 50% and (reserved category not less than 45%) overall aggregate marks.
Candidates appearing for the HSC/12th examination may also apply
Candidates who have registered / appeared JEE 2022 or Equivalent with valid score
